The Work Continues, Bagbin Promises To Exceed Expectations In New Role

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has vowed to bring renewed energy and commitment to his role as he prepares to lead Ghana’s Ninth Parliament. His pledge comes after President-elect John Dramani Mahama directed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Leadership to nominate Bagbin for the position in the 9th Parliament of the Fourth Republic.

Acknowledging the nomination, Speaker Bagbin expressed deep gratitude to President-elect Mahama, the NDC leadership, and the party’s parliamentary executives for placing their trust in him.


“I am deeply humbled by His Excellency’s confidence in my ability to lead this august House as we embark on a new chapter in our democratic journey,” he said.

President-elect Mahama described Bagbin as a seasoned leader with vast experience, stating that his leadership would be instrumental in addressing the challenges facing Ghana’s legislative body. Reflecting on his years of service to Parliament and the nation, Bagbin emphasized his unwavering commitment to the principles of democracy, justice, fairness, and respect for the rule of law.


“Throughout my parliamentary journey, I have always remained dedicated to Ghana and to upholding democratic principles,” Bagbin stated.

He promised to uphold these values as Speaker while ensuring Parliament operates with transparency, integrity, and inclusiveness.


“I assure the President-elect and the people of Ghana that I will rededicate myself to the task ahead, working tirelessly to strengthen our democratic institutions and ensure that Parliament remains a responsive and effective body that meets the aspirations of Ghanaians,” he added.

Speaker Bagbin also extended his appreciation to the NDC’s National Executives and Parliamentary Leadership for granting him the opportunity to serve a second term.


With a renewed focus on fostering unity and strengthening Ghana’s democratic foundations, Bagbin’s leadership promises to navigate the challenges ahead while championing the interests of the people.
