North Tongu MP and Foreign Affairs Minister nominee, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has been approved by majority consensus in Parliament. However, the Minority caucus abstained from the approval process, citing concerns over Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) and past controversies.
With the Minority opting out, Mr. Ablakwa’s confirmation was secured solely by a voice vote from the Majority.

Other Ministerial Nominees Approved
In addition to Ablakwa, Parliament has also approved:
🔹 Dr. Rashid Pelpuo – MP for Wa
🔹 Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed – MP for Nanton
🔹 Samuel Nartey George – MP for Ningo-Prampram
🔹 Kofi Adams – MP for Buem
🔹 Joseph Bukari Nikpe – MP for Saboba
These nominees are now awaiting their swearing-in by President John Mahama.
Tensions Over the Vetting Process
The approval process was not without controversy, as the Minority’s decision to abstain underscored their dissatisfaction with certain nominees and the vetting process.
Despite the heated debate, Parliament ultimately moved forward with the approvals, reinforcing its commitment to scrutinizing executive appointments while ensuring that governance processes remain uninterrupted.
With their confirmation now settled, all eyes turn to the swearing-in ceremony, where these ministers will officially assume their roles.
