President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Prosper Douglas Bani, former Chief of Staff and Minister for the Interior, as the National Security Advisor. With extensive experience in governance and security management, Mr. Bani is anticipated to play a pivotal role in guiding the administration through complex national security challenges.

The announcement was made in a statement issued on Wednesday, January 15, by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Acting Spokesperson to the President.

Key Appointments in National Security


In addition to Mr. Bani’s appointment, several key positions in the national security apparatus were announced:


  1. DCOP Abdul-Osman Razak – Appointed as National Security Coordinator.

    • His role will involve coordinating efforts across security agencies to ensure effective responses to national security concerns.

  2. COP Nathan Kofi Boakye (Rtd.) – Appointed as Director of Operations at the Presidency.

    • Renowned for his extensive experience in law enforcement and operational management, Kofi Boakye is expected to bolster the government’s capacity to address security threats and maintain law and order nationwide.

  3. Charles Kipo – Named Director-General of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).

    • His expertise will strengthen intelligence gathering and analysis to preempt and address security challenges.


The appointments signal President Mahama’s commitment to enhancing national security and governance by leveraging the expertise of seasoned professionals.


Prosper Douglas Bani’s new role as National Security Advisor comes at a critical time when the country is grappling with various security concerns, including ethnic conflicts, crime, and terrorism threats in the West African region.
