Ghana’s political scene is buzzing after activist and lawyer Oliver Barker-Vormawor was ordered to appear before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, to back his explosive allegations of bribery involving committee members.

Barker-Vormawor ignited a firestorm on Facebook last week, accusing the committee of accepting bribes from ministerial nominees ahead of their vetting. He doubled down by daring committee chair Bernard Ahiafor to undergo a public “oral examination” to prove his integrity. Ahiafor, however, swiftly denied the claims, calling them “baseless and reckless,” before escalating the matter by directing Parliament’s Clerk to formally summon Barker-Vormawor.
“If you accuse us of corruption, you must provide evidence. We operate with transparency,” Ahiafor stated, demanding accountability.
The Minority bloc has since pushed to pause the vetting of Defence Minister-designate Dr. Omane Boamah until the allegations are thoroughly investigated.
Barker-Vormawor, known for his outspoken activism, has yet to publicly respond to the summons. His post, however, has gone viral, sparking debates over ethics in Ghana’s parliamentary processes. Supporters argue his claims highlight systemic issues, while critics call it a distraction from critical government business.
With tensions rising, Ghanaians are watching closely: Will this clash lead to reform—or deepen political divides?
