Barker-Vormawor was summoned before the Appointments Committee today, Wednesday, January 29, to substantiate his claims. Addressing the committee, he stated:

"I am happy to, as the conversation has indicated and clarity has been provided, I am happy to pull down the post."

His controversial January 24 post, made at 9:25 PM, read:

“So all the money the ministerial appointees are being asked to pay to the Appointments Committee just to get approved, are those ones not affected by the ORAL?”

The second post, dated January 25, made a more direct allegation, accusing NDC members on the vetting committee of collecting bribes from Mahama’s ministerial nominees before approving them.

"NDC members on the vetting committee take money from Mahama’s ministerial nominees before approving them. The Deputy Speaker must submit himself to ORAL."

Denial & Apology

Before the committee, Barker-Vormawor categorically denied authoring the second post and pledged to issue a public disclaimer. He also apologized to the committee for any misrepresentation caused by his statements.

Chairman of the Appointments Committee, Bernard Ahiafor, had earlier instructed the Clerk to formally invite the activist to clarify his claims, leading to today’s appearance.

With Barker-Vormawor agreeing to delete the post and issue a disclaimer, the controversy may soon settle. However, the allegations—whether withdrawn or not—have already raised concerns about parliamentary transparency and accountability in Ghana’s ministerial approval process.
