Shamima Muslim, a gender activist and member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team, has strongly criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for failing to fulfill its promises of reform once it assumed power. In a recent interview on JoyNews' NewsFile programme, Muslim condemned the NPP for its unfulfilled rhetoric of change and progress.

"The NPP is very vocal about reforms when they are in opposition, claiming they will bring change. But once they’re in power, those reforms never come to fruition," she said. "There’s a glaring gap between what they promise and what they actually deliver."
Reflecting on her time covering the 2009 vetting process after the NDC’s victory, Muslim recalled how individuals like Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh and Joe Osei-Wusu were allowed significant freedom to express their views, fostering a more open and inclusive environment in Parliament.
Muslim cited a specific moment when Joe Osei-Wusu himself acknowledged the platform he had to speak freely, in stark contrast to the current leadership's approach, which she claims restricts open debate.
“Under the NDC, there was always room for open discussions. However, with the NPP in charge, they’ve shifted the atmosphere to one of control, suppressing open dialogue,” she explained.
She also referred to a moment during Joe Wise’s tenure as head of a parliamentary committee, noting a dismissive attitude toward younger members, such as Suhini.
“The attitude was clear and obvious. It was a marked difference from the NDC’s inclusive approach, where dialogue is respected regardless of age or experience," she added.
Shamima concluded by reiterating her disappointment in the NPP’s lack of follow-through on reform promises. "The NPP talks about change when they’re not in power, but once they are in charge, they fail to act on these promises. The disconnect between their words and actions is evident," she said.
