President John Dramani Mahama has urged African leaders to take bold and decisive steps toward building a self-reliant, prosperous, and globally competitive continent. Speaking at the Africa Prosperity Dialogues 2025, Mahama emphasized the need for immediate action rather than empty resolutions.

“Africa’s Time is Now” – Mahama Declares
Addressing a gathering of policymakers, business leaders, and economic experts, Mahama stressed that Africa cannot afford to delay its transformation any longer.
“Africa’s time is now. The decisions we make at this conference must not end in resolutions alone. We must act with urgency, determination, and a shared vision for prosperity.”
Breaking Down Barriers for Economic Unity
Mahama called on leaders to eliminate trade barriers, strengthen regional integration, and work together to harness Africa’s vast resources for economic growth. He reiterated that unity is the key to unlocking Africa’s full potential.
“Let us rise to the occasion, break down the barriers that divide us, and build a strong, self-reliant, and globally competitive Africa.”
Echoing Kwame Nkrumah’s Pan-African Vision
Citing Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Mahama reminded African leaders that the forces uniting the continent are stronger than the external pressures keeping it divided.
“As Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, once said: ‘The forces that unite us are intrinsic and greater than the superimposed influences that keep us apart.’”
A Call for Economic Transformation
Mahama ended his address with a powerful call for African leaders to embrace economic unity and drive sustainable development. He emphasized that true independence means economic empowerment, industrialization, and innovation.
“Let us embrace those forces and chart a new path for Africa’s economic transformation.”
His speech has reignited discussions on Africa’s economic sovereignty, trade policies, and regional cooperation, reinforcing the need for urgent reforms.
