In an alarming incident on Tuesday, December 7, 2025, the statue of COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, Executive Director of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), was vandalized at the agency’s headquarters. The act occurred around 11:30 AM when unidentified individuals defaced the statue despite the presence of two security officers on duty.

Unveiled in October 2024, the statue was commissioned by EOCO staff to honor Mrs. Addo-Danquah for her remarkable leadership and transformative initiatives. Named "Obaatanpa Tiwaa Gardens," the area surrounding the statue celebrated her contributions alongside other past and present officials who have significantly impacted EOCO’s progress. However, the statue has been a subject of public debate since its unveiling, with critics questioning its appropriateness.
During its commissioning, EOCO regional directors and the organization’s Welfare Department expressed gratitude to several beneficiaries for their role in advancing EOCO's mission. Among those honored were former Commissioner of Police Frank Adu Poku (Retired), late Justice Yao Adegbe Tsar, and other distinguished individuals, including current Executive Director Mrs. Addo-Danquah.
The staff citation highlighted Mrs. Addo-Danquah’s numerous achievements, including the successful implementation of a Scheme of Service to guide career progression, her commitment to meritocracy, and her leadership in crafting a Repeal Bill to enhance EOCO’s operational efficiency.
“She is not just a leader but a mentor who values talent and hard work. Promotions here are now based on merit, uplifting the morale of many within the organization,” the citation noted.
Speaking during the unveiling, Mrs. Addo-Danquah expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the recognition, emphasizing how such gestures inspire leaders to serve with greater dedication.
“This bust is not just a symbol of recognition; it reminds me that my efforts are valued. It motivates me to work harder, push further, and serve better,” she remarked.
The vandalism of the statue has sparked mixed reactions among Ghanaians. While some view it as an attack on EOCO’s leadership, others see it as a manifestation of discontent with the statue’s symbolism.
As investigations into the incident continue, many are calling for enhanced security measures to prevent such acts in the future. The EOCO leadership has yet to release an official statement addressing the vandalism.
The incident underscores the complex interplay between leadership recognition and public perception. While Mrs. Addo-Danquah’s contributions to EOCO have been celebrated internally, the statue’s defacement raises questions about the broader acceptance of such honors in public institutions.
