His appeal came during bilateral discussions with General Michael E. Langley, Commander of the U.S. Africa Command (USAFRICOM), on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in Germany.

The discussions centered on enhancing coordination between the U.S. and the Ghana Armed Forces, particularly in areas of security cooperation and logistics. The goal is to strengthen Ghana’s capacity to respond to evolving threats, including terrorism, extremism, and maritime insecurity.


“Today’s meeting with General Langley underscores Ghana’s dedication to bolstering our security capabilities in the face of emerging threats across the region. We value the support from the United States and are eager to expand our collaborative efforts,” President Mahama stated.

Key Areas of Cooperation Discussed


Among the pressing issues highlighted were:


Bilateral security agreements for joint maritime patrols to safeguard Ghana’s coastal waters against illegal fishing and piracy.


✅ Strengthening military logistics and intelligence-sharing to enhance Ghana’s defensive capabilities.


✅ Deepening U.S.-Ghana military cooperation to counter the rising threat of terrorism and violent extremism in West Africa.

While security was the primary focus, President Mahama also took the opportunity to advocate for increased U.S. foreign investment in Ghana. He stressed the need for economic partnerships that would create a stable business environment and drive sustainable development.
