The Member of Parliament for Anyaa-Sowutuom, Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi, has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to conduct a thorough introspection following its defeat in the December 7 general elections. He believes this loss presents an opportunity for the party to reassess its principles, strategies, and governance approach to reconnect with the electorate.

The Electoral Commission (EC) confirmed the NPP’s significant loss in both the presidential and parliamentary elections. John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) emerged victorious as president-elect, securing 6,328,397 votes (56.55%), while the NPP’s candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, managed 4,657,304 votes (41.61%). The NDC also clinched a majority in Parliament, winning 185 seats compared to the NPP’s 80.

Speaking on The Big Issue on Channel One TV, Dr. Adomako Kissi described the NDC’s victory as a wake-up call for the NPP to revisit its founding principles and address internal challenges. He noted that the party had strayed from its original ideals of service, integrity, and inclusivity, which once inspired individuals like himself to join its ranks.

“We need to return to the values that defined the NPP in its formative years under leaders like Kofi Abrefa Busia and Joseph Boakye Danquah. These ideals are what attracted me and many others to the party. Unfortunately, we’ve shifted towards ‘monecracy,’ where financial influence often outweighs merit and principles in decision-making,” he lamented.

Dr. Adomako Kissi also highlighted the need for accountability and truthfulness within the party. “When people spoke the truth, they were often vilified. I personally faced challenges because I believed certain actions were a departure from our core values,” he added.

He called on the NPP’s grassroots members to take up the challenge of reflection and reform, urging the party to prioritize its foundational tenets over financial interests. “We must recognize that money-driven decisions have not worked. It’s time to rebuild trust and return to what made the NPP a formidable force,” he concluded.
