NPP Minority Issues One-Week Ultimatum to EC Over Ablekuma North Election Results

The Minority in Parliament has given the Electoral Commission (EC) a one-week deadline to officially declare Akua Afriyie as the winner of the 2024 parliamentary election in Ablekuma North, located in the Greater Accra Region.
The EC had initially scheduled the collation of results for Friday, January 17, 2025, but the process was abruptly halted when over 40 individuals stormed the collation center, forcing people to evacuate and causing damage to property, including broken louvre blades and doors.

In response to the stalled process, Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, led a delegation from the Minority Caucus to meet with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North. During the visit, he reaffirmed the Minority’s stance, warning that a series of protests would follow if their concerns were not addressed.
“We are giving the EC one week to declare our candidate as the winner of the Ablekuma North election. Some people are calling for a rerun, but we won’t accept that.”
Taking a swipe at the National Democratic Congress (NDC), he questioned their claims of victory.
“If the NDC truly won, why did they destroy pink sheets and burn electoral materials? Ablekuma North belongs to the NPP, and we are winning. Let’s stand firm—God is with us.”
With political tensions rising, all eyes are on the EC as the deadline approaches, with both parties bracing for potential legal and street battles.
