Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, Ghana's Finance Minister-designate, has made a firm pledge to address the nation's current economic struggles, including soaring inflation, the weakening cedi, and rising unemployment. Speaking before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on January 13, Dr. Forson emphasized his readiness and determination to lead the country toward economic stability and growth.

With 16 years of experience in public service, including his tenure as Deputy Minister of Finance, as well as a background in the private sector, Dr. Forson expressed confidence in his ability to tackle the country's economic challenges head-on.
“I am well-prepared for this role. I have studied Ghana’s economic trends and behavior extensively and believe I am in the best position to navigate us out of these difficult times,” he remarked.
Dr. Forson made it clear that his immediate priorities would include addressing inflation, which currently stands at 28.3%, and reducing food prices, which are a major contributor to the inflationary pressures.
“I will work closely with the Minister of Agriculture to implement policies that will boost food production, ensure food security, and make food more affordable for Ghanaians,” he said.
One of his key goals is to bring inflation down to single digits within a short time frame. "We will collaborate with the Bank of Ghana to reduce inflation to 8%, plus or minus 2%, as quickly as possible," he affirmed.
In addition to inflation, Dr. Forson acknowledged the pressing issue of unemployment and the depreciation of the cedi. He vowed to take swift and responsible action to stabilize the currency and create job opportunities for the youth. Recognizing the tough road ahead, he called for constructive collaboration from all stakeholders, urging fellow leaders and citizens to join efforts in rebuilding Ghana’s economy.
“I will do whatever it takes to pull this economy out of crisis and restore it to stability and growth,” Dr. Forson concluded.
