Independent presidential candidate Alan Kyerematen has pledged to prioritize the development of Ghana’s five northern regions, addressing longstanding challenges that have hindered the area’s growth. Speaking during his campaign, he highlighted the region's untapped potential and outlined his vision to close the development gap if elected.

Kyerematen expressed concern over the lack of basic social and economic infrastructure, describing it as a failure of successive governments. “In some communities, children study under harsh conditions, enduring extreme heat, while access to clean water remains a daily struggle for families. These challenges perpetuate cycles of poverty and inequality, holding back both the region and the nation,” he said.
He also lamented the inadequate healthcare infrastructure, noting that many residents must travel long distances to access medical facilities. “It is heartbreaking to hear stories of preventable deaths simply because there are no nearby health facilities. This region, with its immense potential, has been overlooked for far too long,” Kyerematen remarked.
On agriculture, he acknowledged the struggles faced by farmers due to unpredictable weather, limited inputs, and lack of access to reliable markets. He vowed to modernize farming practices, turning the region into a “food basket of West Africa” while tackling food security challenges.
Key promises under Kyerematen’s Great Transformational Plan (GTP) include:
Completing major projects like the Pwalugu Multipurpose Dam.
Introducing agro-parks to enable year-round farming.
Establishing a traders’ bank to provide low-interest loans for small-scale traders, particularly market women.
Kyerematen also urged the people of the northern regions to rethink their political choices and demand more from their leaders. “This is not just about promises—it’s about action. My vision for Ghana ensures no region is left behind, especially one with such incredible potential,” he emphasized.
As the election draws closer, his message resonates with many who seek bold leadership and meaningful change for the northern regions and beyond.
